Social Change and Development (SCAD) comprises of several initiatives in Tamil Nadu, India which is dedicated towards empowerment of the marginalised communities of the region through their community efforts, healthcare programs, educational institutions, endowments and direct social participation initiatives. Since 1985, SCAD has helped 500 villages with a population of over 500,000 in transforming their abilities for primary subsistence and long term sustenance through its community empowerment programmes.

One of the overwhelming achievements of SCAD is the Women’s Empowerment Programme. More than 2,500 women’s self-help groups have been established and the number of members in these groups has gone beyond 50,000 persons. Democratically run, these groups have adopted the microfinance schemes to generate funds for personal, educational and work related requirements. The beneficiaries of these programmes are trained, directed and motivated to strive for improvising all self-help efforts towards management of land, improvement of health and welfare of the people in the community. The benefits from these programmes are far reaching and have impacted successive generations towards self-reliance and improvement in quality of life.

SCAD strongly believes that education and healthcare are the essential enablers for the development of society as it progresses towards a goal of balanced social existence. For the past 29 years, SCAD has promoted several educational institutions ranging from pre-school to professional colleges as part of its social development commitment. The teachers and students of these institutions volunteer their services towards multiple direct empowerment programmes in the region. In addition to providing quality education, SCAD also provides a strong support base for social equality and empowerment through education. SCAD Group of Institutions have been recognised to be unique in their endeavours because of several recognitions and awards presented to them.

SCAD was founded by Dr. S. Cletus Babu, along with Dr. J. X. Amali Cletus Babu who have together consistently strived for the great cause of service to society especially the most under-privileged. Their far-reaching goals are ably supported and well executed by a professional team led by its versatile Managing Director, Mr. C. Arun Babu. This effort has been successfully sustained over the last three decades with the help of highly qualified and committed faculty members, able educational administrators, industry associates, business partners and community at large.
